The Martin Luther King, Jr. Papers Project

The King Papers Project represents a long standing goal of The King Center's unique historical mission to promote and preserve the legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement.

The King Papers Project was initiated as an archival project by Coretta Scott King with the expectation that this endeavor would

  • Make an important contribution to the understanding of Dr. King's intellectual development and leadership and his theological and philosophic underpinning of the call for nonviolence.
  • Increase knowledge of the origins and development of the Civil Rights Movement, its distinctive tactics, strategies, ideologies and leadership styles.
  • Highlight important historical and theological issues.
  • Form the basis for the creation of a broad range of educational materials for a variety of groups.

The King Papers Project effort was conceptualized, designed, and implemented by the King Center to facilitate in the dissemination of information on the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King.
