Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, Chick-Fil-A Founder S. Truett Cathy Honored at ‘Salute to Greatness’ Dinner
At our “Salute to Greatness” Awards Dinner, Saturday, January 17, 2009, The King Center honored (then) Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton, President-elect Obama’s nominee for Secretary of State and Chick-fil-A and its founder, Mr. S. Truett Cathy.
Mr. Isaac Newton Farris, Jr., President and C.E.O. of The King Center, said “The King Center is proudly honoring Senator Clinton in recognition of her outstanding leadership, not only as a great U.S. Senator and former First Lady, but also as a dedicated humanitarian, who has made numerous contributions as a champion of needed social reforms. Senator Clinton has worked tirelessly throughout her career to advance racial justice, child welfare and health security for all Americans and human rights worldwide, to name just a few areas of her continuing concerns, and we are honored to present the Salute to Greatness Award to her as we celebrate the 80th birthday anniversary of Martin Luther King, Jr.”
Mr. Farris also paid tribute to Chick-fil-A, “a great American company and outstanding corporate citizen” and its Founder, Mr. S. Truett Cathy, who he called “a visionary humanitarian, as well as a successful business leader and dedicated servant of the community.” He praised Mr. Cathy and Chick-fil-A for providing more than 25 million dollars in scholarships to young people, in addition to summer camps, a foster homes network and marriage enrichment programs.
