[Inserted over is: crossed out: text] I John 1:5 Light in [Johannine?] literature means a symbol for truth unmixed with error; a nature uncorrupted by a false disposition. Darkness is a symbol of destitution of truth through falsity of disposition. When we speak of God as light we mean at least two things. (1) It might refer to God's inner nature, meaning that there is no [crossed out text; ground] confusion or darkness in this intellectual and ethical being. (2) It also stress casual efficiency, meaning that the universe has in God an unfailing source of illumination.
