[Inserted in Margin: Ritschl] Because of sin man had refused to revere and trust God. This sin led him to construct a false picture of God. In order to correct this false idea God revealed himself in Christ. This revelation was to reveal to man the never-changing attitude of divine love. Ritschl does not regard reconciliation as a perquisite of justification but as its consequence. Justification is the forgiveness that, through the revelation made in Christ, is accessible to every believer.
