Dear Miss Read, Thank you for the letter and clippings of May 5. I am sorry for the delay in replying, but the urgency and frequency of my duties as Pres[ident] of the S. C. L. C. [Southern Christian Leadership Conference] has prevented me from responding earlier. I am grateful for your thoughtfulness [Crossed Out Text: of] [Inserted Above Text: in] sending me the clippings from the Jerusalem Times and the Daily Star. Your interest in and support of our work and the American Negroes struggle for freedom and dignity is most heartening. Your concern is deeply appreciated by myself and our staff.
