Montanism: A Christian movement dated about the middle of the second century centering about the teachings of Montanus and two woman, Prisca and Maximilla. They practiced ascetic ideals and believed themselves to possess the pure type of Christian living an the authority of a special revelation from the holy spirit. Tertullian, famous Latin churchman, was for a time a member.
