Otherwordliness The writer of the Epistle of Element, written in the Second Century, expressed his extreme otherworldliness in these words: "This age and the future are two enemies... we cannot therefore be friends of the two but must bid farewell to the one and hold companionship with the other." Ideally the Christian faith stives for a balance of "a sufficient otherworldliness without fanaticism and a sufficient this - worldliness without Philistinism." Friedrich von Hugel, [underline text:Eternal Life], p. 255
