Philosophy Philosophy treats of the wholes of which the sciences describe the parts and attempts to answer the question [,] which the sciences raise, but which they themselves cannot answer e.g. the geologists tell us the story of the way in which our present earth has come to be what it is. What it means for us that it has taken this form is the world of philosophy; and the various schools of philosophy differ in their answer. Materialist[s] tell[s] us that matter is the ultimate reality. Idealist say[s] that it is spirit; theists say that it is a personal God, in some respects akin to us.
