The Sickness of our Society 1. There is a suicide on the average of every twenty-seven minutes. 2. More than a half million people are in mental hospitals at any time, and more would be there if therapeutic services were better. 3. There are about three quarters of a million alcohol addicts on chronic alcoholics in the United States to say nothing of another two million persons who drink so much that scientist class them as excessive drinkers.
