[Page 1b] Social Philosophy Man must never be used as a thing according to Tillich. This conclusion is reached as a results of his larger [Crossed out [MS: illegible] emphasis on the self-world polarity as the ontological structure of reality. He says, ?Metaphysical theories as well as social institutions in which selves are transformed into things contradict truth and justice, for they contradict the basic ontological structure of being, the self world polarity in which every being participates in varying degrees of approximation to the one on the other pole.? Tillich, ST, 173.
