[Page 1] Spirit The human spirit cannot be analysed [analyzed] as the body can, and we have no means of defining its essential nature. It is manifested only in action. Observation upon the action of man reveals three modes of activity which can not [Page 2] merely he explained in terms of zoology (1) intellect (2) sensibility (3) the will. (1) Man think, he knows, judges, remembers, imagines, reasons (2) He feels, he experiences mental pain or pleasure, he enjoy or suffers, he loves and hates. (3) the impulse to act.
