"Spirit of Law" appeared in 1748. The work is an attempt to discover the spirit of laws, to explain them, to trace how they are related to manners, climates, creeds, and farms of government. He begins with the facts of history with the poetic law which are or either have been on earth. He has a fair, calm, unprejudiced mind.
