THE KING CENTER PARTNERS WITH CLARK ATLANTA UNIVERSITY

7/6/2015

ATLANTA-  The King Center and Clark Atlanta University (CAU) are pleased to announce a new partnership focused on building influential leaders with Nonviolence 365. Nonviolence 365 is the Center’s premiere educational initiative based on Dr. King’s nonviolent philosophy and methodology. As Bernice A. King, CEO of The King Center, shares “This partnership is a reflection of both institutions’ commitment to equipping emerging leaders with the character and strategy for being positive and powerful global citizens.”

Dr. Carl E. Jones, Vice President for Student Affairs at CAU, said, “We are extremely pleased to finalize such a mutually beneficial partnership with The King Center.  Throughout the Civil Rights Movement, Clark Atlanta University students, along with many other students across the country, played a pivotal role in the quest for justice, equality and social change.  At CAU, we encourage peaceful student activism and require community service on the part of our students.  Now, through a formal relationship with The King Center, some will be trained in Nonviolence 365, which is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s nonviolent philosophy, in continuing the ongoing struggle for civil rights.  Others will serve as interns and volunteers at the organization.  Moreover, this agreement will provide opportunities for our faculty experts to participate in panel discussions and on advisory committees, presented by The King Center.  CAU is delighted to partner with such a profound organization with global reach.”

The King Center will provide Nonviolence 365 Education and Training for CAU students from each of the university’s five colleges. The partnership also includes select CAU students rotating through 5 intern positions at The King Center. The internship experience will encompass Nonviolence 365 Education and Training, participation in King Center programs and initiatives, and continual leadership development based on Dr. King’s philosophy. “We are excited to have Clark Atlanta students on the King Center team. They will bring energy, excellence and considerable leadership and professional skills to the organization,” Ms. King stated.  “We are also thrilled that this partnership will allow us to plan and co-host with CAU Nonviolence 365 leadership forums, to which CAU King Center interns and all CAU students will be invited.CAU students will be immersed in my father’s philosophy and enhance their leadership qualities, thereby increasing their ability to address critical social issues and help transform communities and the marketplace.”
