The King Papers Project represents a long standing goal of
The King Center's unique historical mission to promote and preserve the
legacy of Dr. King and the Civil Rights Movement.
The King Papers Project was initiated as an archival project by Coretta
Scott King with the expectation that this endeavor would
- Make an important contribution to the understanding of Dr. King's
intellectual development and leadership and his theological and
philosophic underpinning of the call for nonviolence.
- Increase knowledge of the origins and development of the Civil
Rights Movement, its distinctive tactics, strategies, ideologies and
leadership styles.
- Highlight important historical and theological issues.
- Form the basis for the creation of a broad range of educational
materials for a variety of groups.
The King Papers Project effort was conceptualized, designed, and
implemented by the King Center to facilitate in the dissemination of
information on the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King.
